Arsène Wenger looks to strengthen Arsenal

Arsène Wenger
The Gunners are in desperate need of experienced players and first of all defenders. Wenger have been criticised the last year for not spending enough money on experience players rather than young talents. Now it could seem that the Frenchman is willing to finally listen to the critic and bring in some solid players before the transfer window closes.

Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has alerted Arsenal by declaring his excitement at the possibility of playing in the Premier League. The 26-year-old has been on the Gunners radar for some time but the Bundesliga club have now revealed they will listen to offers for the star. Mertesacker, who has one-year left on his current deal, could be available for around £10million. At the weekend, Werder general manager Klaus Allofs said in the People: “We are willing to discuss a transfer for Per. We have promised him we will listen to serious offers.”

After Thomas Vermaelen went out with injury in the last match the gunners are beginning to look desperately weak in defense. And this could be the break that Wenger have been looking for after failing to get a hold of Blackburns Christopher Samba and Boltons Gary Cahill.
